Did you know that when you come to the dentist, your dentist can uncover important information about your health?
A couple of months ago, a patient came in feeling a little dizzy, and she causally mention to our hygienist that she had chest pain days before coming to her appointment. Our hygienist immediately checked the patient’s pulse and surprisingly it was in the 200 range, she then called the paramedics and was sent to ER. Days after the patient came in to thank us because if the hygienist would not have reacted to what the patient said, that could have been her last visit to the dentist.
There are many signs that could help a dentist determine the state of your overall health by just taking a look at your mouth. Here are some of them:
· Enamel worn down: what this means is that you may be suffering form stress and as a result you are grinding your teeth at night.
· Swollen and bleeding gums: of course this is primarily a sign of gingivitis, but this could also be an early sign of diabetes.
· Sores in the mouth: if the sore in your mouth do not heal after a period of time, this could be a sign of cancer.
As you can see a dentist is able to examine more the cavities in your mouth when you come to the dentist.
Here at 7 Day Dental we care very much about your oral health, but most importantly we care about your overall well-being.
