Kelly Clarkson's Root Canal

On February 2, 2011 the amazing American pop rock singer and songwriter Kelly Clarkson posted this update on her Facebook “Emergency root canal … I’ve had better days,” she wrote. “Oral surgery = sadness.” As you can see on the photo she posted with her update Kelly did not seem very happy to visit the dentist on those conditions.

A few hours earlier, Kelly posted another photo of the bottom half of her face with the caption, “I just got finished at the dentist and I can’t feel this portion of my face. It feels so weird and I keep thinking I’m drooling on myself which is so incredibly attractive, I’m aware.”

As you may have already figure it out from Kelly’s experience, root canal could be a very tedious and painful procedure. The positive side of it is that it could be prevented if you follow the right steps. In this article you will learn all you have to know about root canals and what are some ways to prevented that from happening you.
  1. Strong pain upon chewing or pressure
  2. Prolonged sensitivity with cold or hot foods and beverages
  3. Darkening color of a tooth
  4. Swelling and tenderness on gums
Do you know what a root canal is?
A root canal is done to save a tooth that has decay or has become infected. An infected tooth that needs a root canal will eventually develop an abscess which is painful and causes excessive swelling.
When abscesses occur there will be pus that fills the gums and create the abscess at the end of the root of the tooth. The only purpose of the nerve is to give sensation of hot and cold and not having a nerve in a tooth will not affect the overall function of the tooth. The actual root canal can be done with a general dentist, but in some cases will require an endodontist which is a doctor who specializes in performing root canals.
The specialist is able to work with more involved and difficult root canals and have all the appropriate equipment to perform the actual root canal. When a root canal is done the nerve is removed and a post and buildup must be done to reinstate the strength of the tooth where the nerve once was. The tooth is then sealed and will involve a final restoration. The final restoration will include placing a post and crown on the tooth to prevent it from breaking and protecting it properly to function effectively.

How can you prevent getting a rooth canal
The most important part of a root canal or any dental treatment is to detect it early. It is crucial to get dental examinations every 6 months to ensure all procedures are getting taken care of properly. If a root canal is needed there are different options about how to restore the tooth and these options should be discussed with your dentist.

Having a healthy oral hygiene by brushing and flossing everyday and seeing your dentists every six months, is the key to abstain from any oral surgery or procedure. 7 Day Dental has great staff that is ready to answer any question you may have, and we are open for you every day of the year.
