4 things parents must do after the holidays

Christmas is a holiday that children look forward every year, and become very excited because they get to open up presents and eat all source of sugars. Your responsibility as a parent is to make sure that your kids does not overboard with all the sugar that is available that night. Because we care about our parents, we have come up with 4 suggestions on how you, the lovely parent, can take care of your child’s teeth after the Christmas holidays:
1.       Check the candy carefully to make sure it is still in its original packaging. Any candy that appears to have been opened or partially exposed should be discarded.
2.     Types of candy are also important to consider. All rock hard candy must be taken away since it is the type of candy which will break your child’s teeth. Sticky candy is also bad because it can stick to a child’s braces and biting surface of the tooth. This type of candy might not break a tooth but it will cause decay.
3.      Moderation is also crucial to keeping healthy teeth after Halloween. The candy must not be eaten all in one sitting. It must be eaten in small portions and not alone. A healthy meal must be consumed to lessen the effects of the sugary candy.
4.      Make sure your child brushes and flosses after eating the candy. Brushing will remove any sugar remnants and will provide fluoride to fight cavities. Flossing is also equally important because it will remove any plaque that can cause decay between teeth.
Fluoride mouthwash is important because it will provide protection for the tooth by creating a barrier for decay. Rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash will allow for cavity protection as your child sleeps.

Tips on how to examine information on the internet

Last week, residents of Cowley County in Kansas caused a sensation after they capture a video of the military towing a concealed object on a flatbed truck down US Highway 77. After capturing this video many started a speculation that the object was an UFO, which of course cause a lot of confusion and disturbance in the town.
Local authorities reacted rapidly to this situation in order to clear out the misleading information. Sheriff Don Read announced that the object under the tarp was a drone aircraft manufactured by Northrop Grumman, more specifically a X-47B unmanned combat drone designed to operate from aircraft carriers.
This is a great example of how easily information could mislead a person or in a case like this a whole town. With the freedom that we have to write anything that makes sense, post it on the internet and call it truth, we need to be very cautious when we find an interesting article with new information.
Here are some tips you should follow in order to examine the information you find on the internet:
·         Author: look for the author’s name on the paper, and find out who he or she is, and what is their profession. This would reveal if the author is an expert on the topic, or if he or she is providing bias information.
·         Sources: Many times the author of the paper may not be an expert on the topic, but wants his readers to be informed with that particular information. Therefore, you want to find out where is the information being obtain from, and if this source is reliable.
·         Date: make sure that the information that you are reading is recent and not old. This is very important when you are talking about value of stocks, technology and laws because they tend to change constantly.
·         Research: when you find information that you have never heard before, make sure you go online and research the information you found to see what other experts are saying about this topic.

Tips for parents to follow when buying toys for children

During this holiday season, kids look forward for that Christmas morning to open up the presents with the toys they have been dreaming about. Toys are a major part of children's fun and excitement during the holiday season, and that is the reason why parents need to make sure to carefully examine how safety the toys are before buying it.
Here is a list of very specific recommendations that parents should follow in order to carefully examine each toy:
  • Select toys with sturdy construction and avoid those with sharp edges and points.
  • Don't buy toy jewelry that may contain lead or cadmium. Both are toxic metals that can harm children.
  • Choking is a leading cause of toy-related deaths and most of these choking-related deaths are caused by toy balls, latex balloons and small magnets.
  • Toys with pull strings longer than 12 inches could pose a strangulation risk for babies.
  • Don't give children under age 10 toys that need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Instead, give them battery-operated toys.
  • Be careful with toys that require button batteries. If swallowed, these batteries can become lodged in the esophagus, resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Keep older kids' toys away from younger children.

Come and get your invisalign consultation?

In this new era, where beauty is treated as the main factor for success, dental treatments such as veneers, implants, teeth whitening and even braces are becoming more and more commonly heard in our society. For a long time Hollywood painted a horrible picture for those who used braces. The so called “nerds” were kids with glasses and braces that dedicated most of their time to studying and playing video games. Because this image is slowly fading away braces are becoming more commonly used without much fear, and as a result there are more beautiful smiles around the world. Because we care about our patient’s smiles, we have made sure that in eveyone of our offices our patients have the opportunity to make an appointment with our orthodontists.

What does that mean for you?
If you are one of our patients here at Ladera Ranch, you will now have the opportunity to schedule an appointment with our orthodontist to find out if you qualify for out invisalign or braces treatments.

What is Invisalign?
Is a series of clear, removable teeth aligners that both orthodontists and dentists use as an alternative to traditional metal dental braces. One of the most common benefits is that the aligners are completely transparent, therefore far more difficult to detect than traditional wire and bracket braces.

Where was 7 Day Dental?

This Christmas, 7 Day Dental wanted to help the community during this special holiday by doing something a bit different. We joined the Anaheim White Restaurant House for the Christmas dinner they offer to those homeless families that go from motel to motel, and can not afford a Christmas dinner or gifts for their family.
Bruno Serato, chef of Anaheim White House Restaurant, provides dinner seven days a week for more than 300 children at the Boys & Girls Club in Anaheim, California. Bruno was nominated as one of the top ten heroes in America by CNN.
For this event, 7 Day Dental donated wonderful toys for both girls and boys and tooth bushes for kids and adults. Those kids now not only would have a wonderful Christmas dinner, but now have a new toy to play with and a toothbrush to start taking care of their teeth.
We also had one of our staff member to volunteered at the Happiness Project at the South Coast Plaza were more than 350 kids were bussed from all over Orange County, to celebrate this special holiday with dinner from Wahoos and Z Pizza and sweets from Boardwalk Ice Cream. Children were entertained with magic shows, a nail salon, teen lounge with video games, picture frame decorating station, photo booth and much more!

Are you a very forgetful person?

Many of us suffer from forgetfulness and being easily distracted, but have you ever wonder what could be the reason for your forgetfulness?
Here is a list of possibilities that hopefully will help you to identify the reason for your forgetfulness.
1. Your numbers are low. Fuzzy mindedness could signal a vitamin or hormone deficiency, especially if you're also feeling unusually tired. Schedule an appointment for a physical with a doctor who'll take time with you. Make a list of any other health changes you've noticed that could help pinpoint the source of your problems you want a comprehensive medical exam, including blood tests.

2. Your hormones have gone haywire. If you're nearing the end of your baby-making years, your inability to think clearly may signal the start of perimenopause -- that run-up to menopause when menstrual cycles become irregular and estrogen drops.

3. You've changed your meds.
Anti-depressants can affect mood and concentration when you go on or off them. Antihistamines, sedatives, and anti-anxiety medications can cause lingering drowsiness, and antidepressants, beta blockers, and other medicines can cloud your mind.

4. You're quitting smoking.
Yaaay! Two things to remember when you're tempted to cheat:
1.       The more and longer you smoke, the more gray matter you lose. That's proven. The sooner you quit, the more you maintain.
2.       Yes, you'll have trouble concentrating as you go through nicotine withdrawal. It's a common complaint
5. Your diet has deteriorated. Bad eating habits increase your risks of obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol and related ills that can impair cognitive function, and being overweight or obese makes it harder to stay active, which is essential for brain health.

6. You think busy means fit. You may be incredibly busy, but if you're stuck at a desk or behind the wheel of a car most of the day, you won't be engaged in the kind of physical activity your mind needs. Shoot for 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity three to five times a week.
7. You have anxiety overload. You’re trying to get 200 things done in one day! Of course your going to forget something since your mind is so busy.

8. It's just the way you're wired.
If a new job or relationship is making your problems with focus, organization, time-management and follow-through newly apparent to others, but the truth is they're not at all new to you -- you've been struggling with them all your life -- you could have undiagnosed Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). You don't have to be hyper to be a candidate. Symptoms can take many forms, including impatience, distractibility, forgetfulness, impulsiveness, and having trouble finishing tasks.

It’s The Holiday Season!!!

As Christmas approaches we all think about what it is that we want to make this holiday the most memorable.  We watch the commercials and want the newest electronics and the latest everything.  So when we shop for our loved ones there are some important tips to remember:
  1. Buy friends and family what they want, not what you would want for yourself
  2. Buying a gift for another person does not mean you can reward yourself with a gift of your own
  3. Just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you can give multiple people the same gift
  4. When you begin to make your shopping cart too heavy to push just remember that just because it’s free today does not mean you won’t get the credit card bill next month.
  5. Try to shop with cash only so that you can keep track of how much you have spent
  6. Create a shopping list with the names of everyone you will buy gifts for, what you plan to purchase for them and from where you will purchase the gifts.
  7. Last but not least, vist us at any of our office to make sure your taking care of your healthy teeth, and like us on facebook at any of our four pages, www.facebook.com/7DayDentalEuclid, www.facebook.com/7DayDentalLadera, www.facebook.com/7DayDentalLincoln, www.facebook.com/7DayDentalLagunaWood

Patient's Letter

Last week we received a letter in the mail from one of our patients. After talking to the patient over the phone she told me she wanted to share this review with other people, because she thought it was necessary for people to learn more about 7 Day Dental. Because we love to please our patients, here is the letter we received:

To: Dr. Le
Date: December 1, 2011

My husband and I have recently moved from the Bay Area and I we were looking for dental care. A friend of us spoke very highly of 7 Day Dental in Anaheim. We took his advice and made an appointment.
At my first visit, it was determined that I needed a root canal and a crown. They referred me to a specialist for the root canal at Dr. Le for the crown procedure. He explained to me the steps for the procedure which made me at ease. After the procedure was done I could not believe he was done, the whole procedure was painless.
Due to the medications that I am taking, it was necessary to remove a tooth. Dr. Le knew that this was a going to be a very difficult procedure for me, but with his dental skill and caring personality he helped me overcome my terrible fears and now I able to smile again.
I would definitely recommend 7 Day Dental to anyone who wants to experience complete professional dental care. Not only is Dr. Le and the specialists wonderful Doctors, but the staff is very caring and will assist you in every way to make your experience a positive one.
Thank you to the entire staff for my dental care.

Let's Be Honest

“Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like.”
--Will Rogers
I know I may be exaggerating a bit, but I only do it to get you to understand an important concept people tend to forget.
So during the holidays I see many people spending thousands of dollars for extra exercise and making new resolutions that never tend to last for a long time. If you are one of these people, please hear me out…
·        If walking is really good for your health, the postman would be almost immortal…but he is not.
·        If swimming, eating fish and drinking water everyday is the best diet to take care of your health, then why are whales one of the biggest creatures in the ocean?
·        If running everyday and keeping a balance diet helps you live longer, then why do rabbits only live for 15 years?
HOWEVER ... Turtles don’t run, they don’t do anything all day & yet they live for 450 years!
Exercise is a very important factor in a healthy diet, but it is not the healthy diet it self. Be wise in how you spend your money, because you may be spending it for those that you least like while putting a side the ones that you love.
