Are you afraid of the dentist?

Many of us have feared the dentist for a long time and hesitate to attend appointments. Many of our fears come from memories we had in our childhood. We hold on to those bad moments for years and let them take over causing us extreme fear. The ironic part of this is that most dentists are usually very quite and nice. They go into this profession to help the community see that their only intent is to help them. They want to teach their patients to care for their teeth and not only visit the dentist when their pain has become unbearable.
The problem is that we stop going to the dentist because we fear the pain of a shot and the pain associated with dental treatment. We fear that the pain will come back to haunt us while we are sitting at the dental office. But in reality the pain we endure with a simple shot is very minimal compared to the pain endured after years or months of neglecting to see a doctor and have necessary dental treatments.
Due to the high levels of anxiety that some patients experience, here at 7 Day Dental we have taken a great step to make sure we are providing the patient with a relax and comfortable environment, where coming to the dentist is no longer a sacrifice but an enjoyable experience. Here is a list of some of the options our patients have at our offices:

  1. Sedation: Patients can now get treatment while they sleep and have virtually no pain and their entire dental treatment can be done
  2. Nitrous: If sedation is something the patient does not desire, he or she can also get nitrous, previously known as laughing gas, which will relax the patient and ease any tensions. Nitrous is a gas that is inhaled and just causes the patient to feel relaxed and make the dental visit more pleasurable.
  3. Movies: we have TVs in almost all our rooms for the patients to enjoy their favorite TV show or the movie we are showing that day.
  4. Earphones: we offer earphones or suggest our patient to bring their own earphones to listen to music that would make them feel comfortable and relax.
  5. Blankets and pillows: we are now in the process of buying blankets and pillows for the adequate comfort of our patient, hoping to reduce the patient's nervousness.
There are so many options available to ease a patient’s pain and nervousness and therefore your visit at 7 Day Dental can now be enjoyable rather than traumatizing. Things to remember from October,2011

October has been a month of surprises. On one hand Steve Jobs, a master mind, died on October 5th because of a cancer he had on his pancreas. Jobs was the co-founder of one of the most stable and self growing companies in America today. On the other hand, on October 20th, fifteen days later Muammar Gaddafi was killed. Gaddafi was Libya’s head of state until a civil war overthrow his government and he was capture and killed.

You may be asking right now, what does all of this has to do with dentistry? Well Steve Jobs and Gaddafi are dead now; it is now impossible to think what else they could have done if they were alive. But what about you? You’re still alive, right? What is it that you have not done, that you can start doing today when you still have time? What about taking care of your teeth and having a healthy smile? If that is one of the things you will like to do, please come to one of our offices and let us help you out with what we know how to do best, which is taking care of your teeth.

How we are taking care of your overall well-being

Did you know that when you come to the dentist, your dentist can uncover important information about your health?
A couple of months ago, a patient came in feeling a little dizzy, and she causally mention to our hygienist that she had chest pain days before coming to her appointment.  Our hygienist immediately checked the patient’s pulse and surprisingly it was in the 200 range, she then called the paramedics and was sent to ER. Days after the patient came in to thank us because if the hygienist would not have reacted to what the patient said, that could have been her last visit to the dentist.
There are many signs that could help a dentist determine the state of your overall health by just taking a look at your mouth. Here are some of them:
·         Enamel worn down: what this means is that you may be suffering form stress and as a result you are grinding your teeth at night.

·         Swollen and bleeding gums: of course this is primarily a sign of gingivitis, but this could also be an early sign of diabetes.

·         Sores in the mouth: if the sore in your mouth do not heal after a period of time, this could be a sign of cancer.

As you can see a dentist is able to examine more the cavities in your mouth when you come to the dentist.
Here at 7 Day Dental we care very much about your oral health, but most importantly we care about your overall well-being.
